I chose to explore balance because it was one of the concepts in class that I found most interesting. I liked the idea that a photograph does not have to have a perfect balance, in fact it can have an asymmetrical balance. Balance is an element that is flexible and can be explored in a variety of ways. I explored this element by taking the pictures first and looking for balance later. The three images I chose all have elements that contribute to the balance of the photo. Without such elements they would appear lopsided or awkward. Balance greatly affects the image because it makes it more aesthetically pleasing to the viewer.
This photograph represents a horizontal balance between the clouds and the tree. The clouds are most dense at the very top of the photograph similar to how the tree is most dense near the bottom of the photograph. This photograph represents asymmetrical balance. The dog in the lower left hand corner creates balance with the dense tree in the upper right hand corner. Without the dog, this photograph would feel lopsided.
This clouds in the corner and the tree in the opposing corner create a balance in the photograph.
